LiDAR... flying under the radar, but about to change AR.

When I first heard the mention of LiDAR, I didn't realise how this could unleash an entirely new world of capabilities in the field of Augmented Reality. It was only when our Creative Director showed me a few examples of how he instantaneously created a 3D model of his living room - using his latest iPhone - that the penny dropped. LiDAR actually stands for Light Detection and Ranging. It basically measures distances by using light in the form of a pulsed laser. The beauty is that by combining this data representing distances (and even textures) with the images shot by your smartphone camera, it becomes feasible to quickly create a 3D model of your surroundings. Google's Street View Cars for example use LiDAR to create a 3D model of the world they drive through. But now that we literally have this power in our hands, the opportunities are endless. Tropos AR are currently working on some truly innovative projects using LiDAR to deliver mind blowing customer solutions. Once we can make these public, rest assured you will find out more about these on our Blog.
